With the amount of major G1 characters running more thin by the release, Iron Factory has turned to creating a “Samurai Series” sub line that features their original takes on Transformers characters. The latest to receive their Samurai twist is the Transformers G1 character Grimlock. Named “Daishogun Boohmaru” this original take on Grimlock really knocks it out of the park and in my opinion meets or exceeds any homage I’ve seen of the character regardless of size class. Thanks for stopping by and reading my thoughts on this piece and afterwards please leave yours in the comments section.

Presentation: The packaging for Iron Factory’s Samurai Series is different from the norm and this follows in suit having a longer cardboard box with a solid color and kanji on front with pictures of the figure on the back. The item and its accessories are well packed inside of a plastic clamshell.

Build: Like all of Iron Factory’s releases so far, DaiShogun Boohmaru is an entirely plastic piece. from the joint tolerances to the fee to the paint applications, it’s just an extremely well done piece. The only issue I had was the left hip skirt moving a bit more loosely than the other but it’s so miniscule that I haven’t even used joint polish to resolve it yet.

Accessories: Accessories per the TFSource product listing;

– 2 x Samuari Swords
– 2 x Large Blades
– (Not mentioned) 2 x Sword Holsters
– (Not mentioned) 2x Large Blade Holsters

The swords and blades are fantastic (especially the combined larger blades that form a huge cleaver.) I just wish that the swords held a bit better in their holsters. The hip[ skirts that the holsters are attached to naturally move around when positioning the legs and that looseness tends to shimmy the swords loose at times.

Articulation: I’m extremely impressed with Daishogun Boohmaru’s articulation, particularly with it being an “armored” type of figure which I’d normally excuse a figure having a lack of articulation for. Despite its sheer bulk however, Daishogun Boohmaru is extremely articulated and fun to play with. Iron Factory sent this one for review but I’ll definitely be purchasing another one just to keep on my office desk to fiddle with from time to time.

Overall Score: 10./10 – Iron Factory’s DaiShogun Boohmaru is everything you’d want in a Legends-scaled figure. In fact, I’d even argue that it’s everything you’d want in a C.H.U.G.-scaled figure. The aesthetic is subjective but things like the quality, engineering, and articulation are objectively top-of-the-line and I can’t believe that anyone who purchased would be less than absolutely impressed by this piece. This one’s a strong recommendation from me. Personally I feel like this has edged out Cygnus (Jetfire) and City Commander Final battle (IDW Ultra Magnus) as the best figure the company has ever done.
