Carnage has always been one of my favorite villains of all time and the 90’s toy biz Carnage was one of my favorite toys growing up. I’ve been waiting for a modern update for a long time and until now, nothing has really interested me. The Hasbro legends Carnage released last year was decent, but I didn’t really like the painted on swirls and lack of weapon arms. Luckily, Diamond Select has released their own version of Carnage, this one complete with molded on symbiote swirls, swap-able heads, arm weapons and tendrils.

I absolutely LOVE the sculpt on this toy. The sculpted detail lines and wiry muscle are perfectly represented and make for a very impressive display, and the included tendrils really put him over the top.

Diamond is known for placing the quality of the sculpt above all else, including articulation, so why they continue to put the cut for thigh articulation right in the middle of the thigh instead of at the top or the bottom is beyond me. Never the less, the articulation on this toy is the best on any Marvel select I have ever owned. In fact, its very, very close to marvel legends level or articulation, double jointed elbows being the only thing missing. All the articulation and fantastic sculpt make for a toy that looks very dynamic when posed.

Carnage comes with two different weapon hands, a giant scythe, and a jagged sword like weapon. Both look great when attached, but I feel like Carnage could make better use of them if he had more than 90 degrees of bend in this elbow.

Out of all of the included accessories, I think I like the extra heads the best. Just like with Diamond Selects Venom, Carnage comes with a partially unmasked face.

Besides the odd placement of some cuts for articulation and a couple of stuck joints that had to be warmed up to free them, my only other real complaint is that this version of carnage is big. Like, really big. Taller than Venom in fact. Now, I’m not a super stickler for scale, but I’d like things to be close at the very least, and this version of carnage towers over everything else in its category. In fact, he’s nearly as tall as my Select Juggernaut. At the very least, his enormousness makes him that much more monstrous.

At the end of the day, what your left with is a fantastically sculpted toy that looks absolutely gorgeous on its own, or in a collection of other marvel figures (although maybe in a crouching pose to hide some of his height).
