With our next Fewture Models release, we’re diving deep into Mazinger 1969! It’s been almost a week since getting this in-hand, and I’m still buzzing at how they took one of mt least favorite Super Robot designs and made such a beautiful interpretation of it.

This toy actually shares the same body mold of Energer 1969, so I knew what to expect getting it in-hand, but seeing the silvers and cherry reds in the paint deco was just stunning in person! Sharing the 9.75″ height of Energer, along with another imposing re imaginative design from Taku Sato, this thing just bleeds awesome.

The paint scheme itself strays from the original with the inclusion of blue in the forearms and shins. It was mildly off-putting at first, but provides a nice contrast with the shade of blue used. I also like that, having Energer 1969 as well, it provides a nice differential between the two figures since their body molds are exactly the same.

While on the subject of body types, this does feature the same great poseability with strong ratcheting joints of Energer 1969. It also includes the moveable jaw! It’s great to have such a solid toy that’s also playable.

Rather than trying to describe the accessories, I’m going to list them from the numbered picture below:

1.) Alternate, clear “Breast Fire” Chest plates.

2.) Spiked knuckles (stick out a bit farther)

3.) Spiked Knuckles (regular length)

4.) Blunt knuckles

5.) Jet Pileder

6.) Hove Pileder

7.) Bladed forearms

8.) Open fists

9.) Open hands

10.) Giant Blade

The Jet Scrander is gorgeous! The candy red paint along with the smooth panel lining and perfect shade of gold on the fin…. man oh man! This is something that makes a great display piece even on it’s own, and after those satisfying clicks of rotating the wings and putting it on Mazinger’s back, you’ve got a very imposing-looking wingpack as well:

During the Energer review, I showed the standard posing stand, but it’s nice to see it used on a figure which can utilize it for flight poses:

Overall, once you get him loaded up with accessories, it takes him to a whole new level of beast:

Another Fewture Model, and another feeling of win! A beautiful sculpt that’s probably 75-80% diecast with picture perfect paint apps and then accessories that just throw the level of badass this guy has up tremendously. Mr. Sato, you have blessed us.

Overall Score: 9.5/10
