As a TFcon 2022 Exclusive, Mastermind Creations gave their popular Optus Pexus figure and homaged the “Shattered Glass” Transformers universe with the Optus Prominon “Severed Gieest” repaint. This redeco gives a very different vibe to the figure and really justifies the purchase of both aesthetically. Here are my thoughts on it and please share yours in the comments.

Presentation: The packaging is pretty standard for the Mastermind Creations reformatted line with a rendering on the front and pictures of the product on the backside. This one also has a slip cover for the box with very nice artwork for the figure. The figure itself and its accessories are nicely packed inside of a plastic clamshell.

Build: Optus Prominon is an entirely plastic piece. The materials are strong and the colors/paint are well done. I do like that the fingers on this seem a lot less likely to fall off than my Optus Pexus. The “bullet holes” on the chest pieces are also well done and I was surprised to read that they’re manually created.

Accessories: Accessories per the product list;

– Ion Blasterx2
– laser beamx2
– Ember of Leadershipx1
– Cloak with PVC scarf x 1
– War Axe x
– 1Manual
– Biocard
– (Not listed) Optional Face for Optuus Prominon
– (Not Listed) Optional Face for Optus Pexus

The accessories for this piece are well done and fitting. However I do wish that it came with a masked face that has the tradition crack on the left side of the mask which seemingly a lot of companies choose not to include in homages to Shattered Glass Optimus. In terms of included accessories though, the axe (which is reminiscent of Renderform’s Corbot V axe back when) is that standout piece and I love that while large, it’s relatively light so that there’s 0 problem with Optus Prominon or any other figure you choose to have holding it’s joints withstanding.

Articulation: As with Optus Pexus, the articulation is what I feel the main selling point of this mold has always been. To the point where it honestly seems like a hyper-articulated skeleton was first priority and then making an aesthetic shell and “cybertronian” alt. mode around it.

Overall Score: 9.0/10 – MMC absolutely killed it with this redeco. The weathering, holes, cracked windshield… they are all well done and really show love for the version of Optimus Prime that Optus Pexus homages. The things that keep this from being a 10 for me are the lack of crack in the default, masked face and the figure having an inherently wonky transformation in the leg area that leads to stress marks in the “flaps” on the backside of the leg. Overall, this is a piece that I strongly recommend, particularly as an offset to Optus Pexus.
