I have to start off this review of Sentinel’s Oubu by saying that I know absolutely nothing about the “Buranki” anime that it comes from. I purchased this one on the basis that I trust Sentinel’s general quality and engineering on top of it just being a plain good-looking mecha. Not only were my expectations met by Oubu, but ridiculously exceeded.

Even without having watched episodes of the Anime, it’s plain to see that this Oubu piece nails the show design, and the paint applications/color separation are just perfection. This one has diecast on its inner frame and a nice, sturdy plastic shell to give it a nice bit of weightiness and be smooth to the touch as well.

Where Oubu really earns its mark with me is its articulation. Extremely similar to the 1000Toys synthetic human, Oubu has seemingly countless articulation points to let him be placed in most poses imaginable, but where it becomes even more impressive than the groundbreaking “Synth” is the additional moving pieces at multiple points of its armor that articulate along with its actual body parts to make it feel very “alive” during the posing process. Definitely check out the video to see it all in motion as it’s extremely neat.

The accessories are his head crest, his blade weapon, a stand, and a variety of hands (all pictured.)

In terms of niggles, I’d say the two side skirt pieces not having more outward articulation becomes annoying at times because when they pop off, the space to put them back on is pretty tight. Other than that, this is just one of those pieces that’s “perfect” all around.

Overall Score: 9.0/10 – This figure is so well-done that I don’t even really know HOW to describe it. It’s insane to me that what truly is a more “random” release for me in Oubu as arguably the BEST engineering out of any of the Sentinel products that I own. The extreme articulation makes it a treat to pose and then all of the moving parts and whatnot on its armor are so fun to look at while doing so. Oubu is just an incredible piece, and honestly has made watching the anime a must.
