Even though Hi-Med technically released at the same time as Katana, it’s lower on the “letter” chain so we’ll say this is the third release in Maketoys’ Guardia (Defensor) combiner team. This homage to First-Aid definitely does the job and is really challenging Katana for being my favorite of the group so far.

Since Hi-Med makes up Guardia’s other arm opposite of Katana, they have a lot of similarities in terms of Engineering. Although Hi-Med is a very blatant homage to First-Aid aeshtetically, when you play with it, and even transform it, shades of Katana are definitely there. This makes sense as they need a lot of the same base-functionality to work the same as arms in combined mode. This means that, much like Katana he has a fantastic range of poseability without the problem of the shoulder locks coming out of place when the shoulders are positioned. It’s robot mode is not only awesome looking, but really fun to play with as well. Going from the awesome sword of Katana to a basic blaster with Hi-Med feels a bit lacking in terms of accessories, but it does get the job done.

The transformation is relatively simple and I’d say maybe 3-4 minutes tops to get done and checked over (exact same wording used to describe Katana; they are THAT similar.) The alt. mode itself is pretty dull, but that’s mainly because I think ambulances aren’t very exciting vehicles to look at in general.

Overall Score: 7.5/10 – I’m honestly giving it the same score as katana because they’re essentially the same toy with different skins. A solid, fun piece.
