So after a good wait, Rocket Punch Games is finally getting ready to release their “Hardcore Mecha” video game on PC and Playstation 4 platforms. Along with the game itself are a slew of licensed accessories including this metal build styled collectible for the lead mech Thunderbolt by CCSToys. What’s especially impressive even outside of the look and quality of the toy is that this is a more regularly-proportioned vision of Thunderbolt whereas in the game it has a more “Super Deformed” look so it’s neat to see it in this form (and don’t worry, there will be plenty of “s.d.” collectibles coming as well.) This was a treat to review and an honor to get an early look at so take a look at the video above as well as my thoughts and gallery below and let me know what you think in the comments.

Presentation: The box on this one is actually impressive in the fact that it comes with a shipper (brown, cardboard “protector” box that goes outside of the regular packaging and normally has information about the company and product on it,) regular box featuring really nice graphics of the Thunderbolt mech on the front and back and then inside of that box is yet another thick, black cardboard box with artwork of Thunderbolt’s helmet on the top flap which opens to reveal the figure and its accessories all packed nice and tight inside of three layers of plastic clamshells.

Build: Like previous offers from CCSToys, the build of Thunderbolt very closely resembles that of the Bandai Metal Build Gundams with what I feel are even better joints. This is a diecast and plastic piece with the diecast being used throughout the piece’s inner frame. Everything about this piece is well done and I especially love that the care was put into packing pieces that could potentially break off in box separately. The paint and tampoes are also very well done in terms of their application.

Accessories: The Thunderbolt figure comes with a good amount of accessories:

– Four (4) pairs of hands:
– One (1) pair of fists
– One (1) pair of blaster holding hands
– One (1) pair of sword holding hands
– One (1) pair of open hands
– Two (2) swords and adapters for holstering on the hip skirts
– One (1) shield
– One (1) blaster
– Two (2) effect pieces
– A stand with specialized base

The hands use the same kind of peg system as most of the Bandai Metal Build pieces and everything works and fits very well. The swords in particular are a lot more sturdy than they look being a bit more thin looking. The Blaster and shield are particularly impressive with extending gimmicks.

Articulation: The articulation. is very good although I’d like a bit more range in the legs but it still pulls off most poses that I can think of with ease which is especially impressive seeing as it’s such a “thick” design.

Overall Score: 8.5/10 CCSToys’ rendition of Thunderbolt is awesome. Their continued improvement on their metal build styled products continues to shine and this brings it in both the look and quality departments. It’s also nice to see more properties getting these types of higher-ended items in a licensed fashion. This gets a definite recommendation from me.
