When Marvel Superhero movies are released, sooner or later concept art of designs both used and unused show up and in this case Hot Toys took on an used concept for Captain America in the “Civil War” movie. This concept uses the same general design of the costume actually used in the movie but with a monochrome coloring and forgoing the star emblem on the center of the chest in favor of an Avengers logo on the left breast. Both this and a Concept variant of the Iron Man Mark XLVI armor were released under a “Marvel Studios: The First Ten Years” celebration line.

Presentation: Everything is well packed inside of a sleeved box featuring a nice graphic on both sides commemorating the ten year anniversary of the Marvel Studios moves.

Build: This is an all plastic piece with clothing made of a variety of materials. I will say that I’m especially impressed on the general stitching and layering of the clothing. I truly believe seeing it in person and up close would silence any naysayer who miffs at the cost of these items. The only downside that I found is that the knees on felt a bit loose compared to what I would have liked but still definitely hold poses well.

Accessories: This piece comes with a **lot** of stuff so I’m copying the accessories section from the SideShow official listing:

– Seven (7) pieces of interchangeable black-gloved gloved hands including:
– One (1) pair of fists
– One (1) pair of shield holding hands
– One (1) shield throwing right hand
– One (1) shield catching left hand
– One (1) finger pointing right hand
– One (1) newly created metallic grey, silver and black Captain America circular shield with weathering effects
– One (1) black and white-colored heater shaped shield with weathering effects
– A specially designed Marvel Studios: The First Ten Years themed figure stand with Captain America nameplate

The hands take a little adjusting to get a feel for how to place on, but outside of that the accessories are pretty great. I’ll say that I’m pretty disappointed that neither a Steve Rogers unmasked head or a clip to hold the shield onto his back like the EndGame design that this is recolored from is disappointing. The lack of unmasked head is especially disappointing because the art that this is based off of only shows him unmasked.

Articulation: The upper body/tordo on the Concept Art Captain America is surprisingly good if not great however the pants really keep the legs from getting a lot of range even though it’s easy to tell in play that the articulation points in the legs are certainly there.

Overall Score: 7/10 – The hot toys Captain America Concept Art Version honestly looks and feels fantastic and is a considerably fun piece to play with however I do feel a bit shorted on the accessories and the amount of range in the lower body articulation is a let down. It still makes for a great display but in my opinion it just feels incomplete.
