WHERE TO BUY – TFSource

MakeToys has released the third in their Re:Master line and this time it’s their homage to Hound with GunDog. Aesthetically, I adore GunDog because he shares a big similarity to the Transformers Classics version of Hound which is one of my favorite Classics series toys in general. I went with the “2N” cartoon version (and I literally just now realized that 2N sounds like “toon.”) It’s a great scheme with nicely done paint applications and a good feel to it. The weightiness is very nice. Small details like rubber tires are also an extremely nice touch. In terms of display quality this is great.

Where it falters for me is poseability. In most areas it’s fantastic, but the elbows and knees each fall short of a 90 degree bend (the elbows are right there but the knees aren’t really close.) The knees in particular make getting more dynamic poses hindered, and it is especially disappointing with how well the legs split and how poseable the feet are as well.

The transformation is fairly simple and intuitive feeling. What I really like about it is the placement of the tabs to keep everything lined up well. Their placement really does feel perfect. The alt. mode itself is great. Everything lines up well and it looks very cohesive and “clean.” The thick rubber wheels even give the piece a different feel than other car toys rolling it around. I honestly may buy a second one of these to display in alt..

Outside of solid robot and alt. modes, this piece also provides a few other neat aspects. It has multiple storage points for ALL of his weaponry in both of his modes (The tire as a Captain America-esque shielf is fantastic), and even a “G1 toy” re-configuration for his arms. I like when it feels like a product is looked over from top-to-bottom during it’s design phase, and GunDog definitely fits that bill.

This is a solid piece and definitely my favorite in the Re:Master series so far. I highly recommend it.

Overall Score: 8.5/10
