Takara has went beyond domincance at this point in the Masterpiece-scaled Transformers arena, and their latest MP-36 Megatron is plain showing off in a lot of ways. Megatron really brings it on one end while falling short in a few key areas. Check out the video review as well as the gallery below and let me know what you think. This has been a pretty polarizing piece so I’m looking forward to seeing what you all think as well.

Overall Score: 7.0/10 – This is a fantastic piece. The Robot mode is insanely accurate to the cartoon version of Megatron, it comes with tons of accessories (that actually make sense,) and even includes the stock and barrel extension/silencer that’s normally an add-on for Megatron toys if made at all. Heck, it even has sound gimmicks! There’s really not too much more I could think of that I want out of a G1-inspired Megatron toy. What keeps this from being a 9-10/10 revolves around the alt. mode. From the over complicated (no, not “hard”) transformation to a very in-cohesive, broken “look” to areas of paint scratching by design, it really seems like there should have been more effort put into its alt. mode. Even though I’m a person that by-and-large displays Transformers toys in robot mode, at $229.99 I expect a much higher all-around standard than this piece presents. As much as I’d love to be able to give this a glowing recommendation, I’d advise waiting for another release with at very least fixed tolerances or paint to avoid the scratching issues on the barrel.
