We keep things rolling with Bandai’s SRC Gaogaigar figures by looking at the Tamashii Web Exclusive Gekiryujin figure. A gorgeous paint job and some nice accessories highlight what’s already an awesome figure to begin with.

The first thing that pops out about this figure is the absolutely beautiful paint job on it. They managed to pick the perfect shades of metallic green and gold to represent the show characters FuRyu and RaiRyu that combine to form him.
The anime Gaogaigar featured characters that have complexity but not a lot of fine detailing in their designs, and this toy sculpt represents the character to a tee. The mixer blaster and dump truck bed melee for each of his arms are something that they had creative wiggle-room with size-wise, but I’m glad that they kept them to a bigger, but respectable (vs. “silly”) scale to the rest of the figure.

The poseability on this is impressive. Not necessarily because it does anything beyond standard in terms of joints, but the fact that it maintains ab crunch and waist swivel when the figure is essentially two “halves” that form together (I’ll touch more on that in the accessories section).
The one gripe that I have is his inability to truly look upwards due to the molding on the back of his neck coming down too far for it. A character that show-wise and toy accessory-wise is meant for “flight” should have the ability to look up for posing/pictures to insinuate that he’s flying upwards.

With only one actual “hand”, he comes with an optional open hand and fist with a hole to hold accessories (even though he doesn’t come with any actual weapons to hold.).
He comes with two optional shoulders that are identical to his default ones, but the faces to these variants come off to fit the rocket packs also included on. The shoulder pads and rocket pads are a fantastic add on, because they are a completely separately sold add-on kit for Choryujin, which is a similar combined robot from the series.
Rounding out the accessories are three additional chest plates. The chest plates are actually color-coded to signify which two characters are combined. The figure comes in two halves unassembled, so you get to choose which chest plate to have at the beginning, and you’ll have three more to use as well (four chest plates, total). He has two versions of his regular chest plate. The only difference is that one is more narrow than the other to allow more inwards arm movement. The other two have red/green markings and blue/yellow markings to represent when he exchanges halves with Choryujin to form Gouryujin and Genryujin.

It’s a shame that this figure was a web exclusive. The secondary price due to the rarity from that fact can make it a turn off to a lot of people, and I would not argue with them if they said it. However, I’d always recommend this one as it’s just a stunning piece to look at.
Overall Score: 9.0/10
