To start off “Brave week” here on the site, we take a written and video look at Takara’s Masterpiece King Exkizer (Exkaiser) from the Brave Fighter Exkizer anime series! Even though it’s stifled a bit in areas, this is a great effort from Takara, and I’m glad to have not only reviewed it, but own it in general!

This is a very magnificent homage to Exkizer and it’s combined form: King Exkizer. The looks of the figures are undeniably on and very well detailed. For a figure that’s approximately 3.5″ tall, the detail and articulation in the smaller Exkizer is outstanding. The same can be said for King Exkizer, however, the way that the legs have to open for the smaller ExKizer to fit inside leaves him with absolutely no hip swivel. This leaves him at a loss in terms of being able to plant his feet more squarely and balance better.
This set is definitely not lacking on accessories. With a variety of hands and projectiles for BOTH versions of Exkizer, as well as the large sword for King Exkizer, the accessories are about as complete as they can be.
The most impressive alt. mode and transformation definitely lies in Kizer, as it transforms into a very accurate vehicle mode without noticeable kibble from the robot mode. The same can be said for King Kizer turning into the plane and trailer modes, however the transformation feels like an hour long drive to simply go around the block which makes it more of an annoyance than a reward to get it into those modes.
This is an awesome effort and product from Takara, and I really wish that this line would have continued after this and Dragon Exkizer (also being reviewed this week!). It’s a very nice looking and accurate set, however the one thing that really brings it down is the lack of thigh swivel on King Exkizer. Unfortunately, the awesome heft of King Exkizer becomes a detriment when the feet aren’t able to be posed in a way that balanced him well.
