Fanstoys has finished up their Masterpiece-scaled line of Dinobot homages with FT-08 Grinder. This homage to Grimlock has a lot of appeal visually on top of being a quality-built, fun piece to play with. The video gives a good look at Grinder with comparisons to other Masterpiece Transformers and a walkthrough of its oh-so-smooth transformation. Check it out as well as some of my thoughts below and the gallery.
Overall Score: 8.0/10 – In my opinion, Fanstoys absolutely nailed Grimlock with Grinder. Grinder’s size and design both scream not only the character but what I feel a lot of fans envision is character as. It’s a very imposing piece that does a great job of balancing its finer details to where it brings back cartoon nostalgia while still fitting the amount that a lot would consider “Masterpiece” level. The articulation is very good and it’s a genuinely “fun” piece to play with and pose. The fit-and-finish of Grinder is also on par with what would be expected of a Masterpiece Transformer, first or third party. Overall, It’s not spectacular to the point that I want to rush to spend $800 on the other four Dinobots but it’s a good piece. Something also needs to be said for its alt. mode which is my favorite toy rendition of Grimlock to-date.
