The KitzConcept SD (Super Deformed) styled Valkyrie VF-1S is a pretty cool piece. It’s got a good amount of heft from the diecast for such a smaller piece, and it feels like the accessories it comes with actually “make sense.” rather than a bunch of filler items. It reminds me (to a far lesser extent) to the Soul of Chogokin line where you have option parts to make it more presentable. I also really like the LED options on the head and blaster; insanely bright! The transformations to both GerWalk/Guardian and jet modes are very simple, and being a very solid-feeling piece, it’s fun to have as a “desk toy” to play around with and transform back and forth often. I didn’t grow up with Macross or Robotech, so I don’t have any sort of attacment to the media, but as a collectible I do enjoy this piece quite a bit.

Overall Score: 7.0/10 – This is a solid piece, albeit not groundbreaking. It’s being sold at $70 at The Robotech store which isn’t bad for an item with these gimmicks and the amount of diecast. The fit and finish of this one is what keeps it from being a higher score and in the same class of quality as items like the Fewture Models ES Gokin SD stuff. However, it’s still definitely a fun piece and one I’d recommend to not just Macross/Robotech friends, but toy fans in general. There’s honestly not too much more I feel that I could ask out of this piece, however the most standout nitpick was him not being able to hold the gun “properly” in robot mode. Although the VF-1s still grips and hold it just fine, it cannot be placed in his hand in a way that his poseable trigger finger can be placed no the trigger.
