Everyone’s favorite cassette cat gets the high-end treatment with Ocular Max’s Remix Series RMX-01 Jaguar! This homage to Soundwave’s minion “ravage” really knocks it out of the park offering the character a larger-scaled approach with a lot more aesthetic detail and engineering tricks than what’s been presented over the years. It’s one of those products that turns a side character into a shelf standout and I consider it a must-have for Masterpiece-scaled collectors. Check out the video above as well as my thoughts and gallery below and let me know what you think in the comments section.

Presentation: In one of the most cool packaging ideas I’ve literally ever seen, Jaguar comes in a real-sized, clear cassette case with the insert having a picture of the item on the front with a neat background and said insert also comes out and unfolds into the instructions (a trading card is also included.) It makes so much sense and is so different that it’s genius. Jaguar itself of course comes in cassette mode (makes sense, right?) and it’s one of the few instances where a need something like reprolabels really comes into play because in its stape mode it looks a bit bland with so much empty, black space taking up the majority (although it looks great in its cat mode.)

Build: Ocular Max Jaguar is a mixture of nice, strong plastics and the lower four leg pieces are diecast. when you first pick it up even in the case it’s surprisingly weighty for the size and thankfully this doesn’t have a negative effect on the joints, balance, or general play. It’s a quality piece and the materials make the $60 pricetag feel more like a steal.

Accessories: There are no accessories with this piece. Jaguar’s an all-inclusive figure and the two hip missiles that the Ravage character is known for having are actually built onto the figure and transform along with it.

Articulation: Even though it’s not what I’d call “perfect,” Jaguar is a huge step up from what’s become the standard for “cassette-formers.” loads of movement and good joint range and what’s really cool is that when you move the head and shoulders areas of his neck and back move in conjunction as well. It’s awesome to see in person while handling. The two things I would change in this area would be the ability to move its head and neck more upwards and an additional joint to the tail to give it some more posing options. Overall though it’s still a game changer.

Overall Score: 8.5/10 – Ocular Max is just flexing the heck out of their creative muscles with Jaguar and it’s so good that now I really want to purchase Furor and Riot (the Rumble/Frenzy cassette bot homages) as well. Whether it’s a one off or to display with a group of Masterpiece-scaled Decepticons, it’s just a really great looking, well built, and FUN piece. Jaguar is a strong recommendation from me.
